Week 5 # 12

I enjoyed doing the Web2.0 License to play for the ACL Staff. It was more simple and straightforward, only thing is one has to keep signing in with each new site we visit. But that is a privacy code I guess. I certainly loved doing the exercises and hopefully we at ACL will introduce many on our website and I for one will be confident to help the customers should they need to know how to use these tools for their benefit.

Week 5 # 10

In this excercise I signed in for Digg and found out that
Digg is the most popular social news site on the Internet and can drive a lot of traffic to your blog if your blog post gets to the main page, but can help us find interesting blogs by helping us network with like-minded blogger. But beware there are also lot of cons in using Digg like it's hard to get your blog posts on the main page of Digg. Spam content finds its way on Digg frequently.
People pay the top users and other companies to generate diggs for content and move it to the main page of Digg leaving less chance for your posts to get to the main page.

I then visited Reddit and found that it is similar to the Digg website only that it is very simple and do not have much adverts, but the language what is used is sometimes offensive.

I read two articles on Digg one was of what news anchors do during commercial breaks it has a video on it and the other article was does buying experiences not possessions leads to greater happiness, can money makes us happy if we spend on the right purchases. It makes you think and give your personal opinion on it. The first story on News Anchor tried to sell us to their News Channel and the second one tried to sell us the story through the magazine. So one wonders if this is new advertising gimmick???????

But what ever the purpose it is a good tool for the libraries to use to inform of what is happening in their local library.

Week 4 # 9 --- Animoto

Week 4 # 9 Animoto

Both the sites Animota and Go Animate are very cool sites, I enjoyed both, so much to learn and do. I am sure the library can use Go Animate during school holidays to keep the kids busy, and also as a part of AKOZONE we can teach the teenagers how to make short movies as assignments in the school. I am sure these sites will be hit if introduced in the libraries. I found is fun doing it, everything required is right there, photos, music, cartoon, no software required. Both the sites are good, its hard to choose one. Both are good.

Go Animate is cool stuff for kids and teenagers, where one can use balloons, animated characters to do a library notice or a video for kids to let them know about what happens if they loose a book, or if they have some fines on their library card. Sometimes kids are hesitant to ask any questions but if we have such short videos playing in the library where there is kids area, it will benefit both the customers and the staff. The second website I made my own 30 seconds video

GoAnimate.com: Kirk visiting ACL@earth.nz

Week 3, # 5,6,7

http://authorsontheweb.com/campaign.php?id=278

I browsed through Authors of the web and searched for author called Kristin Hannah came up with her works, it is really interesting site and gives picture of the cover titles etc. I have pasted link of Authors of the web as an exercise.

AuthorYellowPages.com is a website where we can search for authors. If one wants to find about their favourite author and their work it is all in this website. It is website where authors can list their Official and Publisher websites, as well as Fan and Press mentions so that their fans can see what their authors have been upto laterly. It is a comprehensive home on the web where readers can find what they want to know about their favorite authors.

The Litlovers is a great website for book lovers, it tells the reader what all they can do from starting a book club, making book marks, build bookshelves, book ends and also helps the kids to be part of reading, how to make kids reading more interesting. For book clubs there are set of questions to choose from as to what sort of questions to ask during book club - say for example if they liked the book and sometimes when stories end, readers are sad to say goodbye to a book and its
characters. Do you feel that way? Or were you ready for it to end?

The next website was Bookjetty, which is very cool website for customers who cannot find the book they need in their local library to locate it the country or if they want to buy their own copy where to buy them from like for eg Amazon.com etc

One could also invite friends to see what they are reading and what they think about the book. Only thing I kind of disliked is the fact that not all books are listed for example I tried to search for review of Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen but could not find any. Looks to me that it is more for the new books. But yes I would certainly recommend it to the library customers.

Week 2 # 4

Browsed My Heritage and Geni genealogy site, as was warned not to build family tree on My Heritage site I then logged on to Geni It's a family-tree-making service that's easier to use than any other competing system I've seen. And it's free. It also has a straightforward way to invite other family members in the hopes that they'll put in their own data. I personally will never use this site since I am not into genealogy. May be years to come I might, but feel that it will help customers who want to build their own family tree. Good site, lets you add photos of family members, email them so that they can add stuff to it.
